If you are in a relationship that is going through a rough patch then you might be wondering whether or not you should stick it out. Everybody is different and their thresholds for negativity are varied but that doesn’t mean you are weak for walking away from something that just simply isn’t making you happy anymore. Relationships that bring more negativity to the table than positivity are just not healthy and if you care about yourself then it might be time to put yourself first. That doesn’t mean however that all rough patches equal having to end your relationship but here are five signs that perhaps it’s time to call it a day.
1. You Are Not Happy
One of the biggest signs that a relationship just isn’t working is your happiness. A good relationship is something that should build you up and make you feel good about yourself. If you cannot remember the last time that you were happy then perhaps it’s time to address what exactly is pulling you down. You should always have your own happiness as a high priority and that means that you need to put yourself first. If you are only in the relationship to not hurt your partner’s feelings then you need to rethink your position.
2. You Feel Suffocated
Often relationships can start off great but then they steadily fall into a downwards spiral. The people who often seem the nicest can be hiding dark secrets and those secrets only come out once time has passed. If your partner is controlling of you or the jealous type and you are feeling suffocated then it might be time to walk away. Walking away from a controlling relationship can be a really daunting thing to try and do, especially if you have been cut off from your support network but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it. Sometimes you just have to be brave and believe that everything will start getting once you have removed the badness from your life.
3. You Have a Wandering Mind
You may have heard about men having a wandering eye but that is nothing compared to a woman’s wandering mind. If you find yourself often fantasizing about other people when you are with your partner then that is a clear sign that you are not getting everything you need from them. Sometimes love just isn’t enough to keep too people together and if you are longing for excitement then you might need to walk away from your current relationship to get it.
4. You Have Feelings For Somebody Else
They say that if you have fallen in love with two people then you should always choose the second, because you clearly don’t really love the first. Perhaps things might be that simple but love is a subjective thing and you can feel love for more than one person but that doesn’t mean that it is the right kind of love. If you are in a relationship but have developed feelings for somebody else outside of it, then it isn’t really fair to stay with your partner. In a way you are emotionally cheating on them irrelevant to whether you will ever actually act on those feelings.
5. You Don’t Trust Each Other Any More.
Relationship is built on trust, in fact without trust there is no relationship. Like the saying goes “A relationship without trust is like having a phone with no services. And what do you do with a phone with no services? You play games.” If your relationship has reached a level where both of you no longer trust each other, then there is no need continuing.
If you find yourself questioning the other person’s motive, intentions and reason all the time, then that’s a sign that the trust is gone and ending the relationship amicably is the best option.
Long term relationships can sometimes make you feel like you are shackled down. It can often be hard to admit that something you have spent a long time building isn’t working anymore but that doesn’t mean you should stay. Sometimes things just simply do not work out and the longer you stay in a dead relationship, the harder it will be to leave.
